a safe place
Imagine this: You see someone, a friend, sitting in a chair and being walked around by a bully. This person is circling them and just saying the meanest things. Sometimes they are little, snide comments. Things like "Your nose is kinda funny." Other times they are more outright "Why do you even try? There's no point. You never do any good and you should be ashamed of that." Just picture this sort of scenario. What would you do? Would you step in and stand up for that person in the chair? Would it make a difference if they were a friend or stranger? What about even if they were an enemy? Let's say you saw this go on for five minutes or so. Does it make you uncomfortable? It should. Now, imagine that person in the chair is you. How does that make you feel? And the person walking circles, saying all the bad things about you? Well, that's also you.
Friends, we are often our biggest bullies, and yet we deserve to be our own safe place. Let's remember to be safe for ourselves... to talk kindly to ourselves, to listen to and trust ourselves. This is what will bring serenity and peace amidst chaos.
