Hi.

Welcome to HALA. I hope to provide resources, hope, validation, and a little bit of beauty for your world.

a few words for recovery

a few words for recovery

Where there is addiction or compulsive behavior, it is every bit as important for the family members to get help and support as it is for the individual.  Unhealthy behaviors of addicts create unhealthy behaviors in surrounding individuals. They can be hard to recognize and accept at first. It is hard for us to see us as needing to own behaviors ourselves. It is hard to forgive ourselves for not listening to our gut. It is sometimes just as hard for others to understand as it is for us, that we didn't do anything wrong and yet we suddenly need to own and repair unhealthy behaviors or coping mechanisms too. What's worse, we need to do so in the midst of a swirl of trauma. Like an individual hit by a car and bleeding in the road, we need to be treated for shock, have wounds repaired, seek help, and yet also take care of ourselves to heal and make sure those broken bones don't heal incorrectly. The good news is that there are a lot of resources and help out there. You can find a few listed in the 'addiction' tab above. There are also countless books to be found. Here are a couple of quick notes from S-Anon's Step One:
